Thèmes de recherche

Une première partie des recherches concerne les liens entre émotion, identité et mémoire, aux niveaux individuels et collectifs. Il a notamment mené de nombreuses études sur les déterminants cognitifs et émotionnels des souvenirs flashes et de leur impact sur la mémoire collective. Actuellement, il coordonne un large projet interdisciplinaire sur « Reconnaissance et ressentiment. Souvenirs et expériences de la Grande guerre en Belgique ». Il supervise également un projet sur la transmission intergénérationnelle des souvenirs et un autre sur les analogies historiques et les biais cognitifs associés.

Une autre partie des recherches concerne les interactions entre émotion, personnalité et santé. Parmi les projets financés actuels il examine l’impact modérateur de l’alexithymie et des compétences émotionnelles sur le traitement des émotions, ainsi que sur la santé mentale et physique ; les effets de variables neuro-endocrinologiques sur les comportements pro- et antisociaux ; les processus cognitifs et émotionnels impliqués dans l’obésité et les troubles alimentaires et l’impact des activités de loisir sur la santé.
